NEWS: Beginning Of The New Year And The New Collection
The winter has finally arrived to Finland. The cold weather is setting over this northern country and a thin, white layer of snow is covering the ground on the other side of the window next to me, as I write this blog entry.
Going back by only a few years, the time of snow and ice was always an inseparable part of our yearly cycle around the Sun. As a child, I never had to worry if the holiday season would be snowy, if there was ice for ice skating or snow for skiing in the forests. Now, however, it seems like the winters are getting shorter and shorter every year. I wonder if, let’s say, ten years in the future, there is much point to owning ice skates on this latitude (unless, you go to a place with artificial ice, of course).
Looking at the bigger picture, the melting of the big ice bodies on our planet is a horrific and seemingly unstoppable tragedy. The snowy landscapes, the snow fall, the ice covered lakes and all the other enchanting embodiments of the winter time are slowly going extinct. And with the loss of ice, the loss of winter, there are countless other things that the Earth is about to lose as well.
The global warming. I’m sure we have all heard about it so much and for so long. It won’t be hard to find many excellent articles about this impending doom and if you feel like you haven’t read about it lately, I do encourage you to do so.
This brings us to this very moment. The new year 2026 has just started a few hours ago and with it starts the journey of the next collection of TORN, The Song of Ice.
For the upcoming months, I’ll be writing to you more about the inspiration of the collection and share the process of making, from designing the collection to the material hunting and the sewing.
As always, there will be plenty of making-of -updates in TORN’s social media channels, to which Bluesky was added at the later part of 2025 with a handle @torncollections.bsky.social. Looking forwards to connecting with you over there as well.
Until next time,
Sincerely
Iina
